Mohican Memorial State Forest LOCATION OF TRAIL: Accessible from SR 97 DIRECTIONS FROM NEAREST MAIN ROUTE: 3 miles west of SR 3 on SR 97. From I-71, take exit 165 (SR 97) east about 15 miles to the horsemen’s camp. TRAIL LAND MANAGER: Mohican Memorial State Forest, 419-994-5125 TRAIL DESCRIPTION: Single path and unimproved roads, trails are generally well maintained. TYPE OF TRAIL: (multi-use, bridle/hike, etc.): multi-use TRAIL SURFACE: Earthen, rocky, lots of organic leafy material NORMAL TRAIL CONDITION: Dry in most areas Trail condition during winter/wet weather: muddy in some areas, relatively dry on slopes LENGTH OF TRAIL: 3 Trails totaling 22 miles. New trails have recently been added nearly doubling the length. The trails now connect to Malabar Farm State Park and to Pleasant Hill Lake and the Mohican State Forest Resort. TRAILHEAD PARKING FACILITIES: Ample parking on grassy area and gravel lot TRAILHEAD HORSE FACILITIES: Water and tie-ups, group camping by permit only, picnic tables, fire ring TRAILHEAD HUMAN FACILITIES: Pit toilet UNIQUE/SCENIC TRAIL FEATURES: Conifer and hardwood forests, ravines, creeks, very scenic TRAIL HAZARDS: Some road crossings, creeks, certain parts of trail shared with bikes TRAIL RATING: X Easy – Level or gently sloping terrain; consistent groomed surface; wide trail surface; shallow or no water crossings X Moderate – Rolling to hilly terrain; short steeper slopes; water crossings; irregular trail surface; narrower trail surface |
