EQUINE EXCESS LIABILITY INSURANCE POLICY

The Ohio Horseman’s Council can now offer a $1,000,000 liability policy provided by Equisure, Inc.  Underwritten by Lloyd’s, London. You must be a 2008 OHC member to be able to participate. Sigh up deadline is December 31, 2007 for a full years coverage. This insurance will cover your horses wherever they might be, in the barn, in the show ring, on the trail, in the pasture, on the road or just wherever they are. This is a liability policy. This insurance will stack if you already have liability insurance. You will receive a policy from OHC upon receipt of your application. This is a voluntary program. Cost is $38.00 for a family membership and only $19.00 for a single membership. The family policy will cover both spouses and children under the age of 18.  A single membership will cover anyone 18 and older.

Highlights of the Coverage:   Legal liability which may result form an accident or occurrence involving a OHC member’s horse or horse-drawn vehicle. Protection is provided for the negligence arising out of the use, or ownership, which may cause accidental bodily injury or property damage, including damage to another horse. 

¨ Protection is provided if you are performing or competing in horse shows, clinics or demonstrations.

¨ Damages caused by a horse while grazing, stabled or where the horse is not in the control of the member.

¨ Defense and legal costs affiliated or in connection with any claim.

¨ Coverage is included for the member giving permission to any person to  use his horse or horse drawn vehicle.

¨ Coverage is worldwide, provided the suit is brought against the member in the United States.

¨ Protection is considered “excess over any valid and/or collectable insurance (i.e. farm, home, etc). For members without primary policies, the excess liability will be considered “primary”.

¨ Children under 18 years of age are covered under a parent’s policy.

¨ Any horse, pony or mule is considered eligible under the terms and conditions of the policy.

¨ You do not have to be an Ohio resident to become an OHC individual member and get this protection.

¨ Business and professional pursuits, rodeo and racing exposures are excluded.

¨ Coverage is provided through Equisure, Inc. one of the nation’s leading equine insurance specialists and underwritten at Loyd’s, London.

All current Cuyahoga County OHC members for 2008 can send in an application for excess liability insurance along with $19.00 or $38.00 and have instant coverage.  Applications received after December 2007 will get coverage for  the remainder of the year at no reduction in costs.
